Import Data Tools

Using Microsoft Excel to Import Data to Wintouch

Microsoft Excel files can be directly imported into Wintouch. Before importing an Excel file into Wintouch, it is best to save it in CSV, or comma-separated values, file format. This stores the data in a comma delimited format that maximizes ease of import. If you have data stored elsewhere, you can first import it into Excel, then import that .csv file into Wintouch. For files saved in CSV format, select Comma in the Delimiters section of Import Data Tools when importing to Wintouch as shown below.

Note: CSV file format does NOT support workbooks that contain multiple sheets. Limit your Excel file to one sheet to follow this procedure.

Note: Plain text data files in other formats, including comma, semicolon, space, or tab delimited format can also be imported into Wintouch using the appropriate import settings..

Importing Data from Other Files to Excel Before Importing to Wintouch

After importing the data to Excel, confirm that the data is displayed correctly in the Excel spreadsheet before proceeding. The values for different fields should be separated by columns as in the following example. Notice that the first name, middle name, last name, company name, company address, city, state, and zip code all occupy an Excel cell of their own. This is the correct data format. If you attempt to import data that is not correctly formated, the import will not be successful. ie: If the first name and the middle name occupy the same cell the import will not occur correctly.
